Term Time

After School Forest School: for 5-11 year olds without their grown ups

We run two, after school forest school clubs - Hazel and Willow group - on alternate Wednesdays from 5.30-7pm from February through until November during term time.

Sessions cost £8.50 and are payable per half term in advance.

Take part in Wild Play, campfires, nature crafts, tools, den building, games, gardening and veg growing and hang out with the hens and goats on site.

All our sessions are lead by fully qualified Forest School Level 3 Leaders, with Outdoors First Aid qualifications and enhanced DBS certificates. All our volunteers have up to date DBS certificates.

We always try to ensure our sessions are affordable to all, however, as a social enterprise we are committed to widening participation so we also offer 2 fully funded bursary places on our Wednesday clubs.

Young Explorers for 11-14 year olds

The outdoors youth club where we follow the lead of the young people.

Forest School 4

Join young people from several schools across Gateshead, build your outdoor skills and resilience, go walking, cook on the campfire, help fundraise, plan and participate in our trips  and volunteer in our local community on issues you care about.

Plus outdoor games, wild play and chill out, tool use, gardening and looking after the hens and goats.

This group is shaped by the young people who attend - as long as its outdoors, and the young people can help fundraise, we’ll make it happen. We spend most of our sessions here at Birkheads Wild but we’ve also had overnight camping trips to Hadrian’s Wall, paddleboarding sessions, canoeing trips, a fundraising Mud Run

All sessions are facilitated by fully qualified L3 Forest School Leaders or Outdoor Leaders, with up to date Outdoor First Aid training and who have been DBS checked. All adult volunteers have been DBS checked and have received appropriate training.
